WGW Nov 2012: Day 4

Well today was a day for kicking back and relaxing. There was no rush to get up so we didn't. Erin cooked us some lovely omelettes for breakfast and we drank tea and listened to the Bad Pollyanna CD. In the afternoon we stocked on bad provisions and then headed to Whitby Town FC for the bi-annual football game between Real Gothic FC and Athletico Gazette. Sadly it was a disaster for the goth side with a shocking 0 - 6 scoreline. Match commentary was once again provided on Twitter courtesy of yours truly. On the plus side the event did manage to raise £1600 for the nominated charities: SOS Children's Villages, The Willow Foundation and the local Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team! The Sisters Of Real did win their penalty shoot out against the Gazette Ladies though so it wasn't all bad in football terms. Here's a few pics
As is always the case it was great entertainment and all for worthy causes. It was nice to see the club house rammed like it used to be as crowds had been dipping a bit of late. Hopefully this is the return to good support.
After the game it was back to the apartment to start packing and have some food. I always hate Sunday at WGW as it means it is almost time to go home again. Sadly, we have to leave early tomorrow so we were unable to have one last hurrah out on the town. Wine, blogging, vodka was then followed by an overwhelming bout of tiredness!
It has been a pretty good WGW and has certainly been great to get away for a few days. It's also nice to see that the numbers are picking up again at The Spa events so hopefully this will mean that it's once again becoming about the bands and the music.
Roll on the April event!

WGW Nov 2012: Day 3: The Bands

It was a mad rush to get ready tonight and we arrived at The Spa in the nick of time.
BAD POLLYANNA It was really nice to hear something slightly different at WGW. These guys had a sort of theatrical symphonic feel to their sound with a touch of industrial thrown in for good measure. A good rocky goth guitar sound. They had a really good reception from the crowd. Definitely one to check out again in future.

We were rewarded with a wonderful atmospheric performance with some great new material on offer. The band also announced that they were now the official sponsors of Real Gothic FC and Andrew changed his shirt to a new The Last Cry/Real Gothic FC one.

Sadly it was even more disappointing than Inertia last night. Woefully underwhelming and lacklustre are all phrases that sprang to mind with their performance. I'm sure they had a singer last time we saw them (back in 2009) and that seemed to make a big difference to the way things worked for them. The build up might have been big but the delivery was less good tonight

I was very surprised to see this band at WGW as they sound very much like The Misfits but that was no bad thing as they were really rather good. Short sharp songs with catchy chant a long choruses, right up my street! The bass player was a complete lunatic who was bouncing all over the shop and playing in some most peculiar ways. Great stuff!

They weren't really a band that any of us were too fussed about seeing so decided to go back and chill at the apartment and then start preparing for tomorrow and the Real Gothic v Athletico Gazette football game.

WGW Nov 2012: Day 3

Today was an easy day for Toni and I. Here's a lovely view from our apartment first thing
Mars and Erin continued their tourist trail and hit the Old Town and Whitby Abbey. Mars and Erin before they headed out
It was nice just to kick back and relax and not do very much. We did enjoy chilling out and took the opportunity to listen to the new Dutch Order and Last July CDs which were both excellent. Later on we met up at the band stand and took a tour on the Whitby Steam Bus. The story of the Steam Bus in Whitby is very heart warming and if you are ever there I would highly recommend that you take a trip.
More detals can be found here www.whitbysteambusandcharabanc.co.uk After out little excursion Erin and Mars went back to the apartment and Toni and I took a little stroll out along the walk way from the opening photos of this blog entry. It was a little chilly but a lovely scene.
Once the biting wind had got the better of us we grabbed some chips and then headed back to the apartment to join Erin and Mars to start getting ready for the evening of entertainment. See all the WGW Day 3 pics here 031112WGWDay302
